As of the most recent estimates in 2025, the population of Rodrigues Island is approximately 43,000 to 44,000 people, the vast majority of whom are Creoles. Most Rodriguans are descendants of Malagasy and African slaves, with a small minority of mixed-race individuals tracing their roots to the island’s first European settlers.
